Respiratory therapy is a profession in which therapists provide care of people suffering from lung disorders. The state of California provides many schools for people trying to pursue a career in respiratory therapy.

Napa Valley College, located in Napa California, is a top level respiratory school that is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation for Respiratory Care and the American Medical Association. The program lasts two years and at the conclusion of the course the applicants are eligible to take the national and state licensing exams.

The school offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Care and a Baccalaureate Certificate in Respiratory Care. California College in San Diego offers a respiratory therapist program that trains students in the classroom and while using on the job training with workers in the field. The college focuses on various topics that focus on several areas of respiratory therapy. Some of the topics of study include physiology, cardiopulmonary, cardiac and renal anatomy. Once the program is completed, students are eligible to take national and state licensing exams.

Victor Valley College is another respiratory therapy school that is located in Victorville, California. In order to be accepted in the respiratory therapy program students must have passed the following college level classes; intermediate algebra, introductory biology, and introductory chemistry. Once the classes are passed the students must also write an essay explaining why they want to be in the field. The program is a combination of classroom and hands on training that focuses on science and math.
